Resident Agreement and House Rules

House Rules

  1. Curfew is 10 pm Sun-Thurs/11 pm on Sat & Sun unless approved by the House Manager.

  2. Focus on your own progress.

  3. We do not tolerate bad energy that makes others feel uncomfortable.

  4. Clean up after yourself (including rooms daily)

  5. Complete chore daily before 10pm (before work, outside activities and home visits)

  6. Wash clothes once a week on assigned wash day

  7. If you break it-report it. 

  8. Sign in and out daily upon entering and exiting the home

  9. Use respectful language and a respectful tone (inside voice)

  10. Ask permission to enter someone’s space (management team not included)

  11. No alcohol or illegal drugs are allowed on home premises or outside use, including medical Marijuana. THIS IS A SOBER HOME.

  12. Weekly house meetings are mandatory (unless approved by the House Manager)

  13. Report to the House Manager if feeling ill

  14. Resolve conflict without fighting

  15. We are all responsible for taking trash out, shoveling & mowing the lawn. Black Butterfly Women Services provides a quality of a sober living environment for women who are ambitious about recovery and a second chance. House expectations/requirements

 Sober for at least 30 days

 Ability to strive in group living environment

 Attend a minimum of 2 weekly recovery (AA, NA, 12 step)

 Attend mandatory house meeting each week

 Attend IOP, work, school or volunteer for at least 20 hours each week

 No overnight guest allowed unless approved by management

 Visitors welcomed during visiting hours

 Work with a sponsor/mentor weekly

 Meet with PO regularly (If applicable)

Resident Agreement

 

  1. Housing Fees: Residents will occupy a single room at $750.00 per month or a double/shared room at $650.00-$700.00 per month. Housing fee is due on the 1st of each month. Housing Fees are collected by electronic payment (Cash App, or money order Black Butterfly Women Services will charge a $50.00 late fee for housing fees that are paid after 11:59pm on the 5th of each month. Black Butterfly Housing is willing to waive late fee for residents who communicate hardship ahead of time.

    If a resident moves in the house after the first of the month, the program fee will be required in full prior to move in on a prorated basis. If a resident moves out before the end of the month, no portion of the program fee will be refunded. One calendar month notice is required prior to date of departure and departure can only take place the last day of each month; the agreement is month-to-month. If a resident chooses to depart prior to the last day of the month, they will forfeit the remainder of that month’s housing fee.

  2. Pre-paid Housing fee: A $50 pre-payment of your program fee is due to hold your space prior to move- in. At the time of move-in, the $50 pre-payment is deducted from the total program fee that is due. This is not a deposit.

  3. Attitude: Black Butterfly House is sober, trauma-informed, community living environment. It is necessary to abide by set rules and guidelines to maintain order and reduce conflict or confusion. It is equally important that Black Butterfly House residents have the ability to work together as a team and support one another in the journey to living a responsible life guided by spiritual principals. It is impossible to foresee every situation that might arise so please remember this when issues come up.

  4. Living Quarters: Residents are responsible for preparing their own meals (only use oven/stove while on the property), maintaining a clean-living environment, purchasing their own groceries, and participating in house community service (daily). Division of house community service can be found in the house binder. Residents will be provided access to a free washer & dryer* (to use only while on the property), towels, linen and bedding.

    Laundry times will be posted at each house.

    If weekly chores are not completed daily or residents do not clean after themselves, a 6pm curfew will be given to the resident.

  5. Drug and Alcohol Use: Black Butterfly House homes are drug and alcohol free with no exceptions. If any resident is found with drugs or alcohol or is suspected of having these substances, local law enforcement will be notified. Residents who use drugs or alcohol will be required to leave the premises until they are completely sober. Residents will be allowed back in the house on a case-by-case basis. All residents are expected to report any use or suspected use to the management team immediately.

  6. UA’s and BAC: Black Butterfly House can and will administer UA’s or BAC randomly or on an as needed base. Black Butterfly House will give each resident no more than two hours to submit urine. A refusal is considered a positive result.

  7. Weekly House Meeting: All residents will participate in a weekly house social check-in a member of the management team of Black Butterfly House. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss house related business and conduct resident check-ins. All residents are expected to participate in check-ins. House meetings are mandatory and will occur weekly. After the second unexcused missed house meeting, the resident will be discharged from our housing. The weekly check-in sheet needs to be completed before the start of the weekly House Meeting. Black Butterfly House will meet every Sunday at 6:00 PM (transportation will not be provided)

  8. Sexual Activity: No sexual activity is permitted between residents or guests while on the property.

  9. Weapons: Weapons are prohibited.

  10. Intimidation/Violence: Black Butterfly House has a zero-tolerance policy for any type of violence or intimidation and is grounds for immediate discharge. This includes any social media posting as well.

  11. Curfew: Curfew is 10:00 pm Sunday-Thursday and at 11:00 pm Friday and Saturday. Residents should communicate in advance when they need to arrive home after 10:00 pm during the week and 11:00 pm on the weekend. The set curfew applies if residents have a sponsor/mentor, completing 25 weekly productive hours, attending weekly mandatory meetings, keeping room neat and clean daily and completing all daily house chores. House staff reserve the right to suspend curfew privileges in cases where curfew privileges have been abused or resident is not meeting house expectations.

  12. Overnights: Residents must live in the house for 30 days before their first overnight. Resident can have up to two overnights weekly if residents have a sponsor/mentor, work a job, attend weekly mandatory meetings, keeping room neat and clean daily and completing all daily house chores. Residents must provide house staff with overnight plans for the week on Wednesday by completing the overnight pass. House staff reserve the right to suspend overnight privileges in cases where overnight privileges have been abused or resident is not meeting house expectations.

  13. Visitation: Visitors may only visit during visiting hours and may only visit in common areas on the main area of the house. Visitors can stay for up to 2 hours at a time and may not be left unaccompanied. If left unaccompanied, visits on non-visiting days, or stays past the 2-hour time frame – visiting privileges will be taken away. Children; professional visits are able to visit outside of the listed visiting hours from 7:00am – 9:00pm. Sponsors/mentors are not considered professional visits.

    Management must be onsite for visits.

    Visiting hours are as follows:

     Monday between 7:00pm and 9:00pm (confirm times with house manager)
     Fridays between 7:00pm and 9:00pm (confirm times with house manager)
     Saturday; Sundays between 12:00pm and 9:00pm (confirm times with house manager)

  14. Medication: Black Butterfly House does not dispense medication nor are they responsible for medication. Residents are encouraged to take all medications as prescribed by their medical doctors and psychiatrists. Mood altering medications are strictly prohibited. No narcotic medications are allowed without prior approval. Do not fill these prescriptions! There is absolutely no med sharing; all meds need to be safely put away. All Medication requires a lockbox. Any medication that is lost or stolen should be reported to house staff or owner immediately. All new medication must be reported within 24 hours. If medications are shared or misused you will be discharged from the program.

  15. Smoking: Smoking (including e-cigs & vaping) is permitted on the patio and in the back of the house. No smoking in the house, or on the front stoop.

  16. No burning of any flames/fire in the house. (Any religious practices will need to be pre-approved)

  17. House Liability: Residents are discouraged from bringing personal items of value into the home. Game systems, jewelry, laptops, expensive clothing, and other valuables should not be brought into the home. Black Butterfly House is not liable for any personal property during or after the resident’s discharge from the house.

    Black Butterfly House will dispose of all personal property after 28 days of discharge from the house unless other arrangements have been agreed upon. Black Butterfly House assumes no responsibility for the personal property of residents and do not have a locked place to store belongings.

  18. No Resident Will: Install anything on floor, walls, ceilings, windows, doors, or outside of home. Residents will not drill or attach items to walls. Each resident will be allowed to put their own picture frames and personal items on flat surfaces in their room using thumb tacks or 3M tape.

  19. Music/Speaker Phone: Please be respectful of your housemates by keeping your music at a level that can be heard only by you. Headphones are required during quiet time. Quiet hours are from 10:00pm – 7:00am every day. Phones cannot be used on speaker at any time while on BBH property.

  20. Housekeeping: Each resident will be responsible to complete House Community Service. Residents will be assigned house community service weekly and will be responsible for that community service for the entire time. House community service will include, but are not limited to include the kitchen, bathroom, dining room/hall, living room/entry, laundry/stairs, and yard. Residents are responsible for their own areas. Residents are responsible for all of the shoveling of snow and mowing of grass. Residents agree to keep their bedroom neat and tidy, do their own laundry, do dishes immediately after use, keep bathroom items in the designated location, and pick up after themselves in community living areas. If weekly chores are not completed daily or residents do not clean after themselves, a 6pm week curfew will be the result.

  21. Utilities: It is the expectation that each resident at Black Butterfly House will conserve energy and practice the concepts of “reduce, reuse, and recycle” whenever possible. Residents agree to turn off lights when not in use, do only full loads of laundry, and keep the house at a temperature no greater than 70 degrees in the winter. Rooms are able to have a TV that are able to connect to earphones, unless in a single room. All TV’s must be turned off when not at home and throughout the overnight hours when the resident is sleeping. Residents will not have hot plates or microwaves in their rooms. Also, please dispose of all feminine products and any kind of wipes in the trash can, not the toilet, including tampons. ANY FANS, AC UNITS, RADIOS, TV’s, ETC…. WILL BE CONFISCATED IF LEFT ON WHILE RESIDENT IS NOT ON THE PROPERTY.

  22. Out of Bounds: Residents are not to visit non-roommates in their rooms. Residents who do not share rooms will need to only use the common areas only.

  23. Productivity: Residents are encouraged to be productive and are expected to have at least 25 hours of productivity hours per week. When any IOP days are missed a call or text is required daily, prior to the start time to inform the owner that you will not be attending. Productivity includes work, school, volunteer, recovery meetings (after the 2nd meeting).

  24. Sleeping: Please do not sleep in the living room (including napping on the furniture) or any commons areas.

  25. Recovery Meetings: Attendance at least two or more AA, NA, CA, DRA, OA, Al-Anon, Women for Sobriety, Church Recovery Group, or other self-help group meetings is expected on a weekly basis. If recovery meetings are not being met, a 6pm week curfew will be given to the resident.

  26. Sponsors: All residents will have a sponsor, spiritual advisor, mentor, or recovery guide whom they meet with on a regular weekly basis. If resident do not have a sponsor by the end of the second week at BBH, a 6pm week curfew will be given until the resident gets a sponsor.

  27. Other Obligations: Each resident is responsible to attend any professional obligations while living at Black Butterfly House. These professional appointments will vary based on each individual resident but may include, therapy, psychiatry, medical appointments, court/probation appointments, outpatient treatment, recovery maintenance, and any other appointments.

  28. Telephones: Each resident is responsible to have their own cell phone. There is a house phone available at Black Butterfly House for emergencies and priority calls (employment, sponsor, IOP, doctor or rides. Phone cannot be used on speaker phone.

  29. Healthy Lifestyle: Black Butterfly House encourages residents to eat three nutritious meals daily, exercise twice weekly, get 7-9 hours of sleep each night, take medications as prescribed, and have good personal hygiene (shower every day and wash clothes/bedding weekly).

  30. Notice to Vacate: This is not a standard landlord/tenant agreement; this is a sober housing agreement. The owners of Black Butterfly House may at any time and for any reason ask any resident to immediately vacate the property. Typical reasons a resident may be asked to leave include use of a mood-altering chemical, non-payment of program fee, lack of follow through on program rules and expectations, violence toward self or others.

  31. Problem Resolution: If there are any problems between residents it is expected that these will be discussed directly, openly, and honestly in the weekly house meeting or before if the residents are comfortable doing so. Gossip between residents or residents to owner/house manager is prohibited. Problems will be resolved respectfully by each party stating their perspective and feeling and each party coming to some sort of agreement. If Resident violates this Agreement, Black Butterfly House has the option to file an eviction action against Resident, to regain possession of Resident’s bedroom unit.
