Amber Brown
Founder & Executive Director
Hello, I am Amber Brown, the Founder and Executive Director of Black Butterfly Women Services (BBWS). With over twenty years of experience, I lead a dedicated team in creating positive change within our community. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Individualized Studies from Metro State University, with a focus on Project Management, Business Administration, and Human Services.
My dedication to this work is deeply personal. My own journey from a troubled youth to a community leader inspired the establishment of Black Butterfly Women Services. At the age of 15, I faced significant challenges, including being charged with three felonies, which led to court-ordered inpatient treatment and residency in a group home. Navigating the criminal justice system and overcoming the difficulties of finding stable employment and housing with a criminal record was daunting, but my determination and resilience carried me through.
My support system played a significant role in my life, believing in my potential and guiding me toward a better future. Grateful for the second chance I received, I founded Black Butterfly Women Services to pay it forward, ensuring that other women facing similar challenges have the support and guidance they need to succeed. I am particularly committed to reducing recidivism rates by offering safe housing and resources to women being released from prison.
Since acquiring the first Black Butterfly House in 2020, I have assisted over 40 women in rebuilding their lives and seizing their second chance. The Black Butterfly House can accommodate up to seven women at a time, and our goal is to ensure that each woman has the love, tools, and resources to heal and become the best version of themselves. My unwavering commitment to trust, sisterhood, and access as core elements of success continues to drive the mission of BBWS, embodying resilience and a passion for making a positive impact in the lives of others.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my two-year-old daughter and listening to good music. I am honored to contribute my skills and expertise to further our mission of helping women gain self-sufficiency.
